We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to architect, build, and optimize our complex backend infrastructure, focusing primarily on Node.js development while collaborating with our distributed team to design secure, scalable solutions. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise and problem-solving abilities to contribute throughout the product development lifecycle-from discovery and customer interviews to implementation-playing an essential role in advancing our technology stack through continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining comprehensive documentation and balancing hands-on development with strategic technical leadership.
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain a large backend application composed of many different services, languages, and technologiesHandle product support issues that may require backend code changes and/or database data correctionEnsure optimal performance of the central database and responsiveness to front-end requestsCollaborate closely throughout the day with other remotely located team membersDevelop high-performance and efficient features with testable and reusable codeBuild security and data protection into every featureDocument backend processes, including database schemas, as well as preparing reports as neededParticipate in product discovery activity, including customer interviews, story mapping, brainstorming, and prototypingRecommend and implement improvements to processes and technologiesKeep informed of advancements in the field of Node.js development
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in a technology related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered5 or more years' experience as a backend software engineerAt least 4+ years' experience as a Node.js developerAt least 2+ years' experience with PostgreSQL
Skills and Abilities:
Extensive knowledge of JavaScript, web stacks, libraries, and frameworksAvailability to help with urgent issues outside of normal working hoursGood interpersonal and communication skillsExceptional problem-solving skillsExperience with Node.js inside of AWS Lambda functionsSQL experience: being able to navigate normalized tables and optimize queriesAWS services (Lambda, CloudWatch, Elastic Beanstalk, SQS, SNS, etc.)Proficient in designing and building public APIsWorking knowledge of IoT solutions and their implementation
Nice to Have:
Experience with Go in a production environmentExperience with React
Travel:
Ability to travel domestically as needed, no more than 10% of the time
