Associate Technical Director

POSITION SUMMARY
In conjunction with the Technical Direction team, the Associate TD is responsible for budgeting, engineering, drafting, overseeing construction, and load-in/out of scenery for all Milwaukee Rep Productions. The primary role of the Associate Technical Director is to work with the Technical Director and carpenters to develop construction plans that execute the designer's vision within the resources available.
Major Duties and Responsibilities Include:
Generate shop drawings in AutoCAD for assigned projects Act as lead-TD on assigned productions including accurately budgeting designs for labor and material costsPurchase materials and supplies for builds, and maintain inventory tracking throughout the processMaintain and build local and national vendor relationships Enforce all safety guidelines and protocols - Maintaining a safe working environment in all venues and workspacesResearch and engineer scenic elements as assignedCollaborate with Production Area Heads on a daily basis to ensure a smooth production process Collaborate with all stakeholders on the build plan to ensure the set is delivered as designed and on scheduleDevelop scenic load-in and out plans, including labor and special equipment or safety needs for all productionsCoordinate the trucking and transportation of scenic elements from offsite shop to and from performance venues.Oversee and run, as needed, the load-in and load-out of scenery in all venuesAttend technical rehearsals and production related meetings as neededAssist with facilities maintenance as neededAdditional duties as required including participation in education and outreach events
SCHEDULE
The bulk of the work hours will happen during regular business hours, with some nights and weekends as the production schedule requires. The start date is negotiable with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2025.
REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION
Technical Knowledge and Experience:
Project or educational history that demonstrates a mastery of technical design for complex productions Hands on knowledge of carpentry and/or metalworking techniques for the entertainment industryWork history will show growth in leadership abilities and overall successes in a management capacity Demonstrated knowledge and experience in scenery construction and engineering Proficient in AutoCAD, with ability to generate clear and concise construction drawings in a timely mannerExperience with creating scenic budgets and developing project scope within resource constraintsKnowledge in the engineering, build, and implementation of automation preferredExperience driving box trucks up to 26' in length preferred
